Search “St. Thomas airport meet and greet” and you’ll find a dozen providers promising to walk you to the aircraft door and whisk you through a fast-track lane.<\/span><\/p>

At Cyril E. King, neither of those things exists.<\/span><\/p>

That’s not a knock on the service. It’s just that most of the listings you’ll read were written for Dubai and Heathrow and then had “STT” pasted into the headline. Here’s what the service actually is at this airport, what it can’t do, what you should try first, and when it’s worth paying for.<\/span><\/p>

Why departures at STT take longer than the airport’s size suggests<\/strong><\/h2>

Cyril E. King<\/a> moved about 1.6 million passengers in 2024. It’s a one-terminal, eleven-gate airport. People see that and assume it’s a breeze.<\/span><\/p>

The reason it isn’t is customs.<\/span><\/p>

The U.S. Virgin Islands sit outside the U.S. customs zone. So when you fly to the mainland or to Puerto Rico, you clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection <\/span>in St. Thomas<\/a>, before you board<\/b>, not when you land. There’s also a USDA agricultural inspection, where you present any food or plant items before leaving the territory. Then TSA. Three sequential queues in one building, and when the first one slows, the others stack up behind it.<\/span><\/p>

The building itself is part of the problem. In the Port Authority’s own redevelopment materials, the STT terminal is described as having been designed for roughly a third of the traffic it handles today.<\/span><\/p>

The VI Port Authority’s standing advice is to arrive <\/span>at least three hours<\/b> before departure. Worth knowing: American’s hard deadline at STT is 90 minutes for bags and boarding passes. Three hours is the buffer, not the cutoff.<\/span><\/p>

How bad is it really?<\/b> Wider than most posts admit. Travelers report clearing check-in, customs and security in about 45 minutes on a quiet weekday. They also report well over two hours on bad days. When STT made the news for long lines in March 2026, the Port Authority board attributed it to the federal shutdown and unpaid TSA staffing, not to seasonal traffic. The distribution is wide, and the service exists for the bad tail of it.<\/span><\/p>

What a St. Thomas airport meet and greet actually covers<\/strong><\/h2>

On departure.<\/b> An agent meets you curbside or at the terminal entrance, handles bags with a porter, gets you through check-in and bag drop, times your arrival backward from the 90-minute cutoff, points you into the right queue, and stays with you to the entrance of the customs checkpoint.<\/span><\/p>

On arrival.<\/b> An agent meets you in the arrivals hall, works the carousel with a porter, and hands you off to your driver, the taxi stand, or the road to your ferry.<\/span><\/p>

Around the edges.<\/b> Real-time flight tracking so someone is still there when your inbound slips. Group shepherding, which matters more than it sounds when eight people need to move through three checkpoints together. Coordination on the FBO side if you’re arriving privately; STT has three, including Signature and Standard Aviation.<\/span><\/p>

What it can’t do at STT, whatever the listing says<\/strong><\/h2>

Be skeptical of any provider that claims otherwise.<\/span><\/p>
