Flying out of New York the week of Thanksgiving means sharing JFK with a great many travelers. A JFK Meet and Greet gives you one familiar person for the whole departure: your greeter welcomes you at the curb, takes care of your bags, and walks with you through check-in and security toward your gate. This guide covers what to expect, which terminal to check, and how early to plan, so the day feels calm.
Why Thanksgiving week at JFK needs a plan
Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, 2026. The days around it are among the busiest of the year for air travel in the United States. On Sunday, November 30, 2025, the TSA screened more than 3.1 million people, a single-day record at the time. For the latest outlook, check TSA and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey updates before you fly.
A busy airport does not have to mean a stressful trip. What weighs on most travelers is the load: suitcases, children, passports, and the constant question of what comes next. A Meet and Greet is designed to lift that load from your shoulders.
This guide is written for families, executives, people flying alone, and travel advisors booking for clients.
What a JFK Meet and Greet is
It is simple. A greeter meets you at the start of your departure and walks with you through each step of the terminal.
On a departure Meet and Greet, your greeter:
- Welcomes you at the curb or at an agreed meeting point
- Takes care of your bags, where the terminal allows it
- Walks with you to the airline desk for check-in and bag drop
- Escorts you to security and on toward your gate, as far as the airport permits
What Royal does not do: we do not provide wheelchairs, offer tarmac transfers, sell memberships, or give refunds for flight disruptions. Fast track is offered only at selected airports. Ask us whether it applies to your JFK terminal and airline, and your quote will say so.
Know your JFK terminal before you leave
Your airline decides your terminal. According to JFK’s official terminal guide, these terminals serve passengers today:
- Terminal 1: Air France, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, Swiss, Korean Air
- Terminal 4: Delta, Avianca, Virgin Atlantic, Emirates, LATAM
- Terminal 5: JetBlue, Cape Air, Sun Country Airlines
- Terminal 7: Frontier, Aer Lingus, All Nippon Airways, Air Canada, Norse
- Terminal 8: American Airlines, British Airways, Alaska Airlines, Qatar Airways, Iberia
JFK is also in the middle of a large rebuild. A new Terminal 6 is under construction, and the operator of the New Terminal One now expects to welcome passengers in early 2027. Airlines may change terminals as new gates open, so confirm yours on your booking or your airline’s site the day before you fly.
Where your greeter meets you, and how far they can go, varies by terminal and airline. Your booking details confirm the exact meeting point. You can see more on our JFK airport page.
How early to arrive at JFK for an international flight
Your airline sets the timing. Delta, for example, recommends arriving at least three hours before an international flight, and earlier on peak travel days. Check-in and bag drop deadlines belong to your airline, and a Meet and Greet does not change them.
Remember that leaving home on time is only half of it. Roads to JFK are often heavy the days before Thanksgiving, so give the drive generous room.
Share your flight details with us in advance. That way your greeter and your driver are timed to your airline’s check-in window.
The calm sequence: curb, check-in, security, gate
The curb. Your car pulls up and your greeter is already there. They welcome you by name and take care of your bags.
Check-in. You walk together to your airline’s desk. Your greeter stays by your side while you present your documents and drop your bags. Your mind is already on the trip.
安全。 Your greeter walks with you to the security checkpoint. Fast track is available only at selected airports, so your quote will tell you what applies at your terminal.
The gate. You continue toward your gate or lounge, with your greeter going as far as the airport permits.
Nothing is left to figure out. You simply walk to your flight.
Who it helps most at Thanksgiving
- Families with children and strollers: fewer things to carry and fewer things to track.
- Executives and assistants: one plan and one point of contact, easy to book for someone else.
- People flying alone: someone is expecting you and walks with you.
- Travel advisors: book once for your client and share the details.
Before departure day
- Check passports, visas and airline documents the night before.
- Flying to Europe? The EU’s Entry/Exit System has been fully operational since April 10, 2026. Non-EU travelers on short stays register their fingerprints and a facial image when they enter the Schengen area. There is no shortcut around it, so read our EES guide before you go.
- Confirm your terminal and your airline’s check-in times.
- Send us your flight number, the size of your party and your number of bags.
- Pack so your documents are easy to reach, and save your greeter’s contact details on your phone.
